I’m Gaby Hernández, a multidisciplinary designer, researcher and educator. I work at the University of Arkansas and hold a tenured associate professor and endowed chair of Graphic Design position.

My experience includes working with disadvantaged communities and indigenous groups in México and Costa Rica and in collaboration with numerous national, regional, and international organizations. My scholarly activities include publications in English and Spanish, conference presentations in the United States and internationally, invited lectures, comissions, and sponsored design research projects. My creative activities includes exhibitions and sponsored design projects in branding, editorial design, illustration, expressive typography, collaging, information design, visual storytelling, and book arts. My current work focuses on the exploration and integration of topics of heritage and visual memory in the design classroom, community engagement, decolonial design, and life-centered theories and practices.

I received a MFA in Graphic Design degree and a Certificate in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida. I also hold a BSc. in Mass Communication with emphasis in Advertising from the University of Costa Rica.
