I’m Gaby Hernández, a multidisciplinary designer, researcher and educator. I work at the University of Arkansas and hold a tenured associate professor and endowed chair of Graphic Design position.

My research and professional experience includes working with marginalized communities and indigenous groups in México and Costa Rica and in collaboration with numerous national, regional, and international organizations in the US. My scholarly activities include writing and speaking in English and Spanish for conference presentations in the United States and internationally, invited lectures, comissions, and sponsored design research projects. My work has been presented at:

My creative activities includes mixed-media collage, illustration, book arts, and design projects in branding, editorial design, expressive typography, information design, and visual storytelling. My current work focuses on the exploration and integration of topics related to heritage and visual memory in the design classroom, community engagement, decolonial design, and life-centered theories and practices. My work has been exhibited in the US and beyond at events such as the Peru Biennale and the Intercontinental Biennale.

I received a MFA in Graphic Design degree and a Certificate in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida. I also hold a BSc. in Mass Communication with emphasis in Advertising from the University of Costa Rica.
