In December 2018, Maria Rogal (research partner, University of Florida Graphic Design) and I developed and led a design workshop with over 30 entrepreneurs, mostly women,at the Benjamín Franklin Public Library in Mexico City. This collaboration with Incubadora FUMEC de Alto Impacto team allowed us to share with the entrepreneurs how design, local cultures, and personal stories can help shape products for national and international markets, as well as how to develop genuine visual languages while building and maintaining good design practices.
We provided new knowledge and robust feedback for the entrepreneurs to continue developing their products by providing unique costumer experiences that reflect their voices and help them thrive. Learning from their experiences and concerns about design processes and equity, as well as about their background and communities was critical to the development of the workshop materials.
